Develop critical skills to impact all levels of an organization in the 100% online Master of Business Administration with an Emphasis in Human Resources Management program from the Monfort College of Business In this program, you will broaden your expertise in preparation for overseeing an HR department, or focus on a more specific career path such as training and development, employee compensation, or corporate recruiting.

This program prepares you to design an organization's compensation, rewards and performance management systems with an eye on attracting and retaining talent, employee benefits and performance management. You will gain a practical understanding of the major approaches used for managing both planned and unplanned organizational change. Plus, you will review diagnostic techniques for identifying organizational problems and examine how strategic organizational changes can boost quality, productivity and employee engagement.

UNC's nine credit hours of HR specialty courses will provide insight into talent management, compensation and performance administration, and managing organizational change. Focus on creating a competitive advantage for your company through strategic HR planning and staffing. You will learn about job analysis, recruiting, assessment, succession planning, and retention, along with laws and regulations relative to the recruiting process.

With our 27 credit hours of core curriculum, you will deepen your competencies in areas such as ethical leadership, managerial accounting, economics, advanced international business, data analytics and visualization, advanced supply chain management, strategic management, advanced finance and more. You will study organizational topics such as motivation, team dynamics, conflict and culture, and gain an in-depth view of leadership. All courses are 7 weeks in length.

To help ensure your success in the program, you will complete four foundation modules covering practical skills in statistics, economics, finance, and accounting, on a pass-fail basis. These required modules are offered free of charge and can be taken concurrently with your first for-credit course in the MBA program.

Admissions

To be admitted to the Master of Business Administration online, you must hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 undergraduate hours. If your GPA is at least 2.50 during the last 60 undergraduate hours, you may be granted admission (with additional requirements) with verification of acceptable work experience and GMAT. Students who hold a conferred Pharm D degree will also be considered for admission.

MBA – Human Resources Management Online Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree based on 3.0 GPA during the last 60 undergraduate hours
  • Students may be considered for admission based on a GPA between 2.50 and 2.99 during the last 60 undergraduate hours (with additional requirements) based on work experience with the following formula: GPA x 200 + years of work experience x10 >= 600
  • Submit your work history via the Work History Form

GMAT Waiver

  • The GMAT may be waived for applicants with a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and three or more years of continuous managerial work experience (career progression will be considered) or the student holds a graduate degree from an accredited institution. For applicants who are required to take the GMAT, reference the UNC university code W8Z.
  • All transcripts from all institutions attended post high school in official format and the work history form must be received in order for UNC to see if you qualify for a GMAT waiver. If you qualify for a GMAT waiver, your application status page will be updated to reflect that once the evaluation has been performed.

Courses

The MBA with an Emphasis in Human Resources Management online curriculum is comprised of 12 courses (36 credit hours), including 27 credit hours of MBA core courses and nine credit hours of human resources emphasis courses.

Regardless of academic background, you are required to take four free foundation modules—Foundations of Statistics, Foundations of Economics, Foundations of Finance, and Foundations of Accounting—on a pass-fail basis.

Examines organizational behavior topics such as motivation, team dynamics, perception, power, politics, conflict, and culture, with an in-depth view of leadership.

Data analytics considers methods for structuring and manipulating large databases, extracting usable datasets and performing statistical and textual analysis to support decision- making. Exploratory, confirmatory and predictive analytics will be examined. Data visualization considers techniques to communicate statistical and operations information efficiently through graphical techniques. This includes dashboards, charting, plotting and mapping methods.

This course examines the concepts, applications, and uses of managerial accounting in managerial decision-making for managers and other internal users.

Examines application of microeconomic analysis used in managerial decision- making. Topics include demand analysis, cost and production functions, and behavior of competitive and non- competitive markets with applications to various business decisions.

This course focuses on the mechanics of globalization and the mastery of business strategy, operation and practices from a global perspective. It explores national differences in political economy, culture, ethics, and their implications in international management and how to integrate such differences into a global strategy.

This seminar course involves the analysis of the marketing concepts, functions and principles involved in planning, implementing and evaluating the total marketing programs of various organizations. Elements of the marketing process, including environmental impacts, building and managing brands and analyzing marketing strategies in delivering the best customer value will be the focus in this course.

This course focuses on the improvement of supply chain processes and performance, explores important supply chain metrics, makes clear primary tradeoffs in making supply chain decisions, and presents tools for effective and efficient supply chain management, transportation, warehousing and inventory control, order fulfillment and supply chain coordination.

Course topics include time value of money, risk and return, capital budgeting, financial analysis and modeling, capital structure, working capital management, and international corporate finance. Advanced topics make use of case studies and/or simulation.
