In which online degree program do you teach?

  • Which classes do you teach online?

    Principles of Accounting, Accounting Ethics

  • What do you want students to learn in these courses? What is the expected learning outcome?

The expected learning outcome is for students to acquire a basic level of understanding of the accounting process and how it relates to business as well as an understanding of financial statements.

  • What types of projects can online students expect in your courses?

This is very dependent upon the course. For the MBA, I have developed accounting foundations coursework where students perform accounting practice problems, concept quizzes and a final exam.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online program?

    • Treat the lecture videos like a traditional lecture and take notes. You will need to review these notes before exams
    • When taking assessment quizzes seek, to understand why an answer is correct or incorrect. Don't just assume that you understand if you get the question correct. After quizzes are submitted you will be able to view feedback for each question. Read and make sure you understand this feedback whether you got the question correct or not. You should focus on understanding and not memorizing. There is a lot of material in this course, and it is not possible to memorize and be successful.
    • Practice, practice, practice. You must work problems to learn accounting. Take the homework assignments very seriously.
    • Work on this class daily when possible. By not having gaps in your progress through this course, you will more easily retain the material and have less of a challenge with the exams. You should watch the lectures and complete assignments in an environment where you are not rushed. You need time to re-watch videos and re-work problems.
    • Always review earlier material before starting new material. Remember that this course is cumulative. Reviewing each day will ensure that you are prepared to learn.
  • Why did you start teaching?

I started teaching to give back, to make a difference in the lives of students.
